With conditions, completely changing from raining and 45 degrees in Round 1 to sunny and 65 degrees in Round 2 , Team Echo Lake had their minds on winning. Pat Fillian, Director of Golf at Echo Lake CC, entered the week, defending his title from 2019 because last year's competition was cancelled due to COVID-19. Derek McDonald, has won this event multiple times with his long time partner, Andy Brock, his first coming in 2002 and his most recent in 2008. The 2 players had more than just past championship titles in common, they work together at Echo Lake. In his post round comments, Pat Fillian thanked his partner for keeping him steady throughout the day, "Derek is such a great player, putter, and an even better guy. We had a great time out there today and I'm just happy we were able to play in this championship together". McDonald certainly did keep the team steady, adding a number of birdies to the scorecard thanks to his impressive putting performance. On the back nine, in their second round, Team Echo Lake carded 4 birdies and no bogeys. With other teams close behind all day, Pat and Derek had to play aggressive and keep the big numbers off the scorecard, and that is exactly what they did. With 12 teams finishing wihtin 7 strokes of their final score, Fillian and McDonald were able to ward off some impressive competition.
