McGovern, Sturgeon Share Lead after Day One of the Lincoln Charity Clambake

White Beeches Jim McGovern, seeking his first Lincoln Charity Clambake, shares the lead with his Senior Junior Championship partner Grant Sturgeon of Arcola. McGovern posted the low round at Trump National Golf Club, Colts Neck today with a 2-under 70. McGovern, 52, shared the lead after the first round of the Lincoln Charity Clambake in 2016.

Several miles down the shoreline, Sturgeon, who is in his first year in the Section, carded a 2-under 69 at Rumson Country Club.


Grant Sturgeon is in his first year at Arcola Country Club. 

Following the two are Alex Beach of Baltusrol and Acushnet Company’s Daniel Kinn, both of whom won three of the four Section majors in 2016, are at even par. 2015 Clambake winner Brett Jones of Due Process, Kevin Maciorowski of Westlake Golf and Country Club, as well as Matthew Barr of Somerset Hills are also even.

Defending champion Bill Hook of Knickerbocker played his first round in the morning at Rumson, shooting a 1-over 72.

2001 and 2010 Clambake winner Mark McCormick of Suburban finished at 1-over during the morning shotgun at Trump Colts Neck. He’s in the same position as 2003 and 2014 Clambake winner Brent Studer of Metedeconk, who finished 1-over at Rumson.

In the gross division, McGovern and Erick Alonso lead by two at 7-under. The leaders in the net division are Maciorowski and Eddie De Ross at 9-under.
