Jim McGovern shares his thoughts following his first round at the 2017 U.S. Senior Open at Salem Country Club.

Q. What were your thoughts on today’s round?

  1. “I played good. I hit it solid. I just didn’t hit my iron very crisp. Overall, I’m happy. I made some good putts when I needed to keep the round going. I didn’t do too many bad things.”

Q. What are your thoughts on the greens this week.

  1. “Greens are good. On 16, 17, 18, they’re a little quicker. They definitely have a little pace on them if you’re on the wrong side, but it’s a typical Donald Ross.

Q. What are you going to look to do tomorrow?

  1. “I’m just going to try and find my rhythm early in my round tomorrow. I kind of found it in the middle and it was just a little off in the end.

Q. What was your goal at the beginning of this week?

  1. Play well. Give myself a lot of chances and try my hardest.
