Jon Pritsch Background
Jon M. Pritsch was an accomplished New Jersey High School golfer who passed away from a heart condition in 1991 at the age of 17. The Pritsch family continues to run a Foundation in his honor and provides a scholarship to a deserving candidate every year. In 2007, Don Pritsch, Jon's father and a PGA Member, approached the New Jersey Section and asked if they would name the Junior Ryder Cup in Jon's memory. The event , which is run in cooperation with the Philly Section, was proud to name both it and the trophy, the Jon Pritsch Memorial Cup.
The teams from each Section are made up by taking the top girl on the points list in each age group, the top four boys on the points list in each age group and two Captain's picks, one from each age group. There are 10 boys and 2 girls on each team, 6 from the 16-18 year old division and from the 13-15 year old division. The Captain's picks must be Junior Tour Members who have played in at least one event during the current season. The Captain's picks from the New Jersey Section are chosen by members of the Junior Golf Committee.
The format for the Cup Matches are as follows: each player plays an individual match and a concurrent four-ball match at the same time. The first year, each hole was worth 18 points for a total of 324. In 2008, both Sections agreed that each individual match and the concurrent four-ball match would be worth 1 point for a total of 18 available points (3 points available in each group, 6 groups total)
