In a 3-to-1 playoff, Asedo, an assistant at Mountain Ridge Country Club, couldn’t help but let out his emotions after rolling in a 35-foot uphill birdie putt to win the National Car Rental New Jersey PGA Assistant Championship supported by Srixon, Cleveland Golf, XXIO, Golf Advisor and John Deere at Canoe Brook Country Club.

“It felt awesome,” Asedo said watching his putt drop.

Asedo, who shot a 1-under 71 in the morning, will join Sean Lawrence of Shackamaxon Country Club, Justin Rasmus of Hyatt Hills Golf Complex, Steve Osland of Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club, Ray Ferrari of Deal Golf and Country Club and Brian Mackey of Echo Lake Country Club at the 42nd National Car Rental National PGA Assistant Championship, November 15-18 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fl.

The Assistant Section Championship, normally a 36-hole event, was shortened to 18 holes due to the weather and playing conditions.

With the win, Asedo has surged into the top 10 of the OMEGA Assistant Player of the Year standings.

“I’ve been having a pretty solid year,” Asedo said. “I’ve had a couple good performances, but I feel like my game is where I want it.”

Asedo, who has worked in the Section since 2013, did not have a professional win to his name until today. The 33-year-old will also be competing in his first national event this November.

“Regardless of how this season ends, it’s already a victory in my book,” Asedo said. “I’ve been wanting to get a win for some time now. To win the Assistants Championship, it’s awesome, it’s perfect.”
